Lucas Jumalon Launches WSOP Talent Search

Reigning World Series of Poker (WSOP) Main Event champion Lucas Jumalon is launching an ambitious international initiative to discover and mentor poker’s next breakout star. Just months after claiming a life-changing $10 million first-place prize and becoming the second-youngest champion in tournament history in August, the 22-year-old Spokane, Washington native has been named the global ambassador for the new WSOP Academy app. Rather than simply lending his likeness to the platform, Jumalon is embarking on a worldwide tour across WSOP Circuit stops to personally train a protégé and award them a direct path to poker’s biggest stage.

Negreanu’s High Praise Becomes Reality

Jumalon’s move into an active ambassador role fulfills an accurate forecast made by Poker Hall of Famer Daniel Negreanu. Speaking on the PokerNews Podcast in September, Negreanu lauded the young champion’s maturity, drive, and willingness to accept the heavy responsibilities that accompany poker’s ultimate title.

“Probably, of the Main Event champs … this guy really seems like one who wants the role, and he wants to do big things. And I think he’ll be around for quite a while,” Negreanu said.

While many past champions have chosen to take their prize money and step away from the public spotlight, Jumalon is leaning directly into the poker community, using his platform to lower barriers for newcomers entering the game.

The WSOP Academy Tour and Protégé Mentorship

As part of his ambassador duties, Jumalon will travel to select WSOP Circuit stops worldwide to host private meet-up games exclusively for WSOP Academy app users. At each stop, one player from the meet-up game will win a free buy-in into that venue’s WSOP Circuit Main Event.

The stakes climb dramatically at the end of the tour, where Jumalon will evaluate all the meet-up game winners and handpick a single standout player to become his official protégé. That chosen player will receive an all-expenses-paid seat into the prestigious $10,000 WSOP Main Event in Las Vegas in 2027, backed by personal strategic mentorship from Jumalon himself.

“Not long ago, I was the kid dreaming about winning the World Series of Poker Main Event. Now I have the opportunity to help someone else chase that same dream,” Jumalon stated. “Poker has completely changed my life, and I’m excited to travel the world, meet the next generation of players, and hopefully discover someone who will be sitting at the final table someday.”

Worldwide Tour Begins in Nottingham

The global talent search officially gets underway on November 13 at the renowned Dusk Till Dawn Casino in Nottingham, England, with future international stops scheduled to follow. A dedicated WSOP production crew will accompany Jumalon throughout his travels, filming high-stakes hands at the tables as well as behind-the-scenes travel moments for an upcoming docuseries. The series will air on the official WSOP YouTube channel, with the debut episode slated for release in late November.
